Finding my identity

A few nights ago, I was home alone and bored. So I did what any young, single male with an internet connection would do; I look myself up on Google. I have been around the block a few times so surely I have to be out there somewhere in the giant oasis of internet info.

Unfortunately for me, there is more than one person with my name and apparently, they are more interesting. Some are actors, some philanthropists; one guy was married to Christie Brinkley, had a nanny and…well that guy is definitely not me. Over 24 million hits off my name and nothing was about me.

With the internet growing both in size and power, businesses of all sizes are investing more time and effort in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is the process of getting more, higher quality traffic to a business’s website “for free”. Nothing in this world is completely free and SEO takes both time and effort. Obviously, the more relevant traffic to a company’s website, the more business.

When consumers look up a product or service online using Google or Yahoo, they are often blindly throwing a dart at a dart board. SEO is the process of getting a business as much coverage on the dart board as possible. No matter where the dart hits then, their website is in position to be noticed.

For Web Easy Media, I have just dived into keyword SEO and it is by no means an easy tasks. From huge enterprises to a nerd in a basement, there are a lot of people that claim to be web developers. Utilizing tools, such as AdWord from Google, I have been able to find some of the best and worst keywords to use to help gain traffic to our website. Taking the keywords and putting them into relevant content, though, is a task still on the drawing board.

SEO seems to be the new catch-phrase all over the internet. It’s important that a company understands what tools to use before diving into SEO or they risk spreading their web presence on the wrong dart board. To say the least, realizing that the world doesn’t know who I am yet is a little disheartening. It could be worse, though; I could be the one with the nanny
