Web Developers
Are you in good hands?
Last night, I went to the Zack Brown Band concert. The Zack Brown Band plays country music, so as expected, there were plaid shirts and cowboy hats as far as the eye could see. After a good concert, the band came out for an encore and, just as expected, it included a freestyle rap.
Yep, the show ended with a guy breaking into a freestyle rap at the end of a country concert. Now don’t get me wrong; I like a little rap here and there. But ending a four hour country concert with a little hip-hop flavor left me a tad confused.
Much like gangster country music, web developers who have no web presence always surprise me. If I was looking for someone to create or update my company’s website, I would kind of expect the person or company to have a good website themselves. Sure enough, though, there are countless individuals who advertise their web developing capabilities with either no or a poorly constructed website to look at. Wow, you have a nice Facebook page…so does my 10 year old niece.
Though it is obvious to me not to trust a web developer whose presence on the web is lacking, it appears that others are not fazed by it. Working as a bartender, I have talked to many small business owners frustrated with their current websites. When I ask why they continue working with a person who is clearly underperforming, the answer is almost always the same. “Well, they are the cheapest ones I could find”. Shocker.
Every business has a budget and often website development is not funded as much as it should be. Regardless of the business you are in, using the internet as an avenue to show yourself off to one’s target market should be a high priority. Using an amateur to create your website will often only produce amateur results.
Trusting your company’s face to the world with someone who has no web presence is an unneeded risk to take in the competitive market we all work in. Just like people line dancing to Jay-Z, I will always be shocked by the companies that use developers who know little about developing.
